The Musical Director of CODA Chorus: Ed Larson

Ed Larson

In September 2008 CODA Chorus welcomed Ed Larson as Music Director. For almost 20 years Ed has been CODA’s Accompanist, now, as Music Director, he brings his knowledge and love of music, his conducting talent, and his great sense of humor--it has been a season of learning, singing, laughing, and feeling the joy of beautiful singing.

Ed Larson received his Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from Boston University’s School of Fine and Applied Arts, where he studied organ with Max Miller (Marsh Chapel) and George Faxon (Trinity Church). He studied choral conducting with James Cunningham (Tanglewood) and Allen C. Lannom (assistant to Robert Shaw, Julliard School).

As a choral conductor, Ed has been a member of and assistant to the conductor of The Masterworks Chorale and The Master Singers of Boston, MA.  He has served as conductor of the Kennebec Performing Arts Company Chamber Singers, The Celebration Singers, the All-Aroostook County Choral Festival, District IV Music Festival. Ed has also been director of choral music at Medomak Valley High School, Waldoboro, and Music Specialist for the Maranacook School District.

As organist/pianist, Ed has served various churches in Massachusetts and Maine, including the historic Trinitarian Congregational Church in Concord, MA.  He has also been the accompanist for CODA Chorus, Kennebec Performing Arts Company Chorus, The Capital Chorale, and numerous school music festivals.  He remains active as an organ recitalist, and is currently the Music Director at the Winthrop United Methodist Church.

Ed Larson is a published composer (USA and Sweden) and his choral works have been performed nationally, including performances by CODA Chorus, and internationally by the New Jersey Westminster Church Choir at St. Stephen’s Cathedral, Vienna, Austria.
